Everyone has the right to feel safe and live their life free of violence, abuse or intimidation. It is important that rental tenancy laws support people who experience domestic and family violence.
At Make Renting Fair we believe tenants who can evidence their experience of domestic and family violence should be able to end their tenancy at short notice or install required locks and security without prior approval.
Currently people forced to flee their homes due to domestic and family violence often experience financial hardship due to ongoing liabilities such as rent obligations and related disputes about their bond which inhibits their ability to secure alternative accommodation.
Make Renting Fair supports changes to:
- enable people experiencing domestic and family violence to leave quickly, safely and legally without incurring additional financial hardship
- support people experiencing domestic and family violence to stay by improving security of their rental property
